Who is Capri?

What is your most memorable project?

“My most memorable project was when I led the Visual merchandising and product assortment planning for North Bronx in NYC. I took my time studied the market and the consumer. You may be thinking “wait, didn’t you live in NYC for over 20 years, didn’t you already know?” Well, each borough has its own style and flavor, a true New Yorker will tell you that, very boldly! Lol. So capturing the essence of the Bronx was important. I made sure to be very detailed in styling and merchandising, For an example, a male mannequin in our Basketball initiative zone had on socks and Benassi slides with Basketball sneakers draped around his neck. On any given evening or weekend, when you walk past the basketball courts, this is what you would see. It was important to me that the community could see a reflection of themselves and that as a brand we weren’t just opening a door for the sake of expansion but rather to SERVE them and the community”

What is something people don’t know about you?

“Ah! This one is tough because I consider myself an open book (for the most part, lol). But I would have to say most people don’t know I was born in Heidelberg, Germany. Both of my parents were in the Army, so that is how that happen! My mom told me when she was early in her pregnancy with me, she used to travel the world and that is how she came up with my name Capricia. She went to Italy, fell in love with the island of Capri. She wanted my name to have a bit more dazzle dazzle, so she elongated it to Capricia. I think this where my love of travel stems, having been in the womb while my mother travelled all over and my dad remained in the service until I was born.”

TELL US WHO YOU ARE….

“As simple as this should be, it’s quite difficult to explain for I think it changes daily and I am at a point in my life where I am aggressively evolving for the better. I am on a journey of self-discovery and I am surprised daily of the challenges I continue to overcome as well as the passion and drive I continue to uncover and lean into. From the outside, I am viewed as this confident, high-energy, no nonsense leader who takes up space when warranted and holds people accountable to their commitments. This is all true, but what is often not seen is a creative who spends her days immersed in reading historical fiction, building legos, watching the Golden Girls and obsessing over creating my own lane as it pertains to fashion and personal expression”

how would you describe your journey since moving to Oregon?

“Surprisingly amazing! Having moved from the city that never sleeps, being a hustler and grinding all the time was considered normal. Since moving to Oregon, I have been able to slow down and actually enjoy a cup of coffee on my patio and not have to drink it out of a to-go cup while sitting in traffic! I am more active outdoors and have implemented 10 mile walks / 4-5 days week. This allows me to reflect, organize my thoughts and ready myself to take on the day.”

Where did your passion for visual merchandising come from?

“Funny enough, it started when I was 15, working at the Gap In Logan Square, Chicago. I think the Gap is the foundational retailer where everyone starts their retail career, lol. I worked at Gap for 4 years and fell in love with being able to create looks and tell a story through apparel and accessories. I would watch how consumers would interact or respond to areas I had merchandised and mannequins I had styled and it filled me with joy knowing that my work was being appreciated and celebrated. We had numerous corporate visits and almost always, there was discussion around how well the merchandising reflected our local consumer. At that point, I knew I wanted to work in the visual merchandising space.”

When it comes to fashion, what is your favorite season and why?

“I absolutely LOVE the Fall season. There is something about being able to layer and start playing with patterns and texture but also, as you remove a layer, whether it be a scarf, hat or coat, it changes the outfit and it recreates a new style. It’s almost like wearing multiple outfits at once and unveiling each at any given moment. You can play dress up or lean into a character. To me, that’s so much fun”
